Christmas Toy Drive

Alpha Phi Alpha's Beta Psi Lambda Chapter hosts two Christmas toy drives for less fortunate children.  The chapter partners with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Tau Tau Omega Chapter (Santa Monica, CA), Dorsey High School, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Sickle Cell Disease Foundation of California.

A yearly Christmas party is held at Dorsey High School for families affected by sickle cell anemia, where a luncheon features a toy give-away.  One in every 400 African Americans has sickle cell anemia, but raising awareness for the disease has become increasingly tough, which means that funding is hard to come by, and even worse, finding African American blood donors has become a major issue.  A part of this Christmas party is to raise awareness of this disease.

The second toy drive is held at the Imperial Court housing projects, where hundreds of children are able to participate in a Christmas program and receive a gift.  This event brings a lot of families together in a positive manner, and puts a smile on many children's faces.
